Unfortunately for me, Aerin is one of my favorite characters, so even though he's canonically dead, I love to pretend he's not. In pretty much every AU of this story, Aerin is alive and well and part of the main plot, because I love him and I miss him. Aerin is very smart, but he hates to take anything seriously. He's a mischief-maker and a nuisance. He despises responsibility and prefers to spend all his time seeking laughter and novelty. When he was alive, he led Zane in constant silly shenanigans, the two of them always in trouble because of Aerin. Zane adored Aerin and would do anything for him. After Aerin's death, Zane vowed he would never let Aerin go, and continues formal Tseian mourning rituals even ten years later.
